Custom Brick Shapes

Turn Ordinary Brick Buildings into Something Special

H.C. Muddox is a manufacturer focused on meeting the needs of architects. As every one of your projects is unique, your brick masonry should be uniquely tailored to that design. You don’t want your thoughtful projects to be built with mundane materials selected from a common catalog. Rather than offering a limited range of products based on the most commonly used bricks, HC Muddox can work with you to create the desired shapes.

Myths About

Custom Shapes

They must be very expensive...
Nope! Well, okay, sometimes, a little. Consider this: the material cost of face brick on a building is usually 0.5% of the entire project cost. A shape could be double or quadruple the stretcher cost and barely dent the project bottom line. However, the cost of labor to lay the brick is much higher. Why not create special shapes so the masons don’t have to cut, chisel, recess, project, etc. to achieve your design intent.

We have many examples of buildings that reduced the masonry costs by creating shapes to increase the speed of installation.

Shapes will disrupt bond patterns...
It’s great that you are considering bond patterns. We have established shapes just for the purpose of turning corners, starting at edges, and maintaining your prescribed bond pattern. More good news: if you are designing with structural brick, we have shapes in the same depths with the same large cores so that your vertical reinforcing will not be interrupted.

Customization requires engineers...
Not always. If you need a peer review of your proposed design with shapes, we are here for you. The best people to consult are the crafters that will be making the brick. We enjoy assembling our team of brick makers, architects, masons, and sales managers to guide you across the finish line. Just in case, we also have a structural engineer.
Shapes are too special for ordinary buildings...
This myth makes us so sad. Clay is beautiful. It can be formed into so many shapes without compromising its properties. Even the slightest change in elevation plane, a bullnose, an arch, a splayed corner can allow the building to sing.
